My body feels different when dressed up

Same but Different, Equinox to Equinox, 222 Lodge,

Hof, Dordrecht, September 21, 2025

Ellen Rodenberg, Performing: One hour

I wonder:

My body feels different when dressed up,

I wonder how my memories differ in notes and drawings.

My body feels different when dressed up

my body remembers

my mind notes in code

the code explains and varies explanations if misunderstood.

We are all al-one in our bodies

My codes are transferred over and over again

Do you understand me, Do I understand you?

mijn lichaam onthoudt

mijn denken noteert in code

Iemand

rood blauw gekleed ligt getrapt uitgevloerd

Iemand vraagt: "Kunt u tegen 11 ogen dobbelen?".

Ik teken een kubus van 2 kanten met..... en ......

Iemand echoot geluid uit een radio,

offiiii? -------elk!--------Offiiiii?------elk!

Mijn notitieboekje gaat in mijn jaszak.

Dan volgt een ontmoeting en een uitwisselingsgesprek.

ENG

Afterwards, I write:

I lift up my sunglasses.

It’s about 1.00 pm.

I take three rolled-up pieces of wrapping paper out of my bag and unfold them.

I attach one to my back, under my coat.

I tie the second piece of net-cut wrapping paper around my waist.

A short petticoat.

I tie a third piece around my neck.

I clip a paper clip, traced onto paper,

to the back of the collar, a second one next to it.

I’m holding a notebook and pen in my hand.

I turn round.

Someone

dressed in red and blue lies sprawled,

the head snapped back,

on the steps of Dordrecht Town Hall. I draw.

Someone in a mid-length dark blue raincoat

stands still, barefoot,

shivering and clattering with two loose white mannequin hands on the back.

Slowly, a hand moves forwards. I sketch toes.

Someone slowly pours water from a watering can into a glass.

It’s full, but the pouring doesn’t stop.

I write down words and walk on.

Someone with a determined look walks

in a black leather jacket

with red and white boxing gloves

and clownish make-up, hahahaha

as he walks around.

Hahaha, I note down, my mouth joining in.

Someone asks: “Can you roll 11 on the dice?”.

I draw a cube with two sides labelled ‘...’ and ‘...’

Someone echoes a sound from a radio,

offiiii? -------elk!--------Offiiiii?------elk!

The radio, set to ‘repeat’,

dangles above the canal on a partly broken cord.

Someone pulls on it; all sorts of things start moving.

Classical music now.

Someone shouts ‘Stop!’ A boat full of people is coming.

The belongings rattle on the slack rope.

Someone empties a box of matches over the head of

someone lying in the square. I watch and make no notes.

Someone is curled up around the lion’s head

and is doing something with some wiring. I draw.

Someone has wrapped themselves around a lamppost

with cardboard and tape

and is looking at me with one eye from behind a magnifying glass.

I draw and take notes.

Then someone shouts: “OK!”

I undo my collar, skirt and train and roll them up.

I put my notebook in my coat pocket.

Then follows an encounter and a exchange of views.
