Same but Different – Equinox to Equinox
is an international event of public actions for freedom for all.
It takes place simultaneously at numerous locations around the world.
During the Equinox (in March and September),
day and night are approximately equal in length everywhere in the
world.
In the spirit of cosmic equality,
this event is an international connection of people acting together in
public spaces.
Sharing time and space brings us closer together, as a temporary
global community
to encourage non-violent expressions
in locally specific circumstances through performance.
Everybody is welcome to participate.
Same but Different – Equinox to Equinox is a short-term performance
festival
that took place on Sunday 20 September 2026, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
on Stadhuisplein in Dordrecht, the
Netherlands.
There was no fixed program with consecutive performances;
instead, everything takes place simultaneously,
allowing collaborations to arise spontaneously.
Participants in
Dordrecht (NL):

Aides-Memoires to document ‘Changing
Position’
See for English below
Wat ik me herinner van
de uitvoering
van mijn performen heb ik hieronder opgeschreven.
Ik schreef alles wat
ik me herinnerde voordat ik
bekeken.
Helemaal zonder
kennisneming van deze beeld-documentatie
is dit schrijven niet.
Maar ik heb een poging
gedaan
om van binnen naar buiten te denken.
Zo lukt het misschien
om herinnerde beeld-documentatie
buiten het schrijven te houden.
Daarom schrijf ik dit
verhaal in de tegenwoordige tijd.
Ik probeerde tijdens
het schrijven mijn ervaring
vanaf 13:00 uur chronologisch op te roepen.
Na het
herinneringsschrijfsel
1
Met een
boodschappentrolley loop ik
richting het Stadhuisplein van Dordrecht.
Ik kijk naar links
en vanuit een plantenbak met olijfboompje
word ik vriendelijk begroet door Philemon.
Ik hoor me hallo terug zeggen.
Terwijl ik het plein
oploop zie ik
dat de onafgesproken
groepschoreografie
traag op gang komt.
2
Bij een bankje pak ik
een statief uit mijn tas.
Ik zie kinderen naast
me en
beneden aan de trap staan
hengelen in de gracht.
Naast me staat Engel
zich voor te bereiden.
We groeten elkaar.
precies over gaten waar mensenogen horen.
Wordt dit de
uitdrukking van mijn blinde andere ik?
Er komen meer
associaties ‘naar boven’.
Blinde vlekken, ‘Vrouwe Justitia’ .
Het ‘blinde’ masker
bind ik over
een ingevouwen paraplu.
Die zelf weer aan een
selfiestick vastzit
die aan een oude microfoon standaard
is getaped.
3
Engel stapt het plein
op.
Ik loop met het
statief-paraplu-masker construct,
imponeergeweld
van het bombastische stadhuisgebouw
automatisch mijn ‘mute’ knop indrukt.
Leunend tegen de muur
oogt mijn staaksel me spierwit masker,
nietig. Zelfs als ik maar twee passen achteruitstap
en op ooghoogte met de geblindoekte
sta.
4
Ik zoek een andere
plek
en vraag me af hoe me te verhouden
mensstemmigheid.
Later klinkt het
gemurmel als een soort gezang.
Het waait, het geluid
golft.
Ik bind het laken met
de twee latten vast
aan het samengestelde standpunt.
Ik besluit een nieuwe
positie te zoeken.
5
Ik loop de trappen van
het stadhuis op.
Ontzag-trappen met
lok-treden.
Ik ben hier gevoelig
voor merk ik.
Elke tree naar boven
vergt moed en voelt beloftevol.
Alsof ik in een
sprookje met goed einde wordt gelokt
met de koude douche van de werkelijkheid.
Hou vol, lijkt elke
tree omhoog, te zeggen.
Hou vol, dan kom je
ergens,
In wie z'n web?
Wil ik daar wel zijn?
6
Boven aan de trappen
rijzen machtig grote deuren op.
Ze zijn dicht.
Je voelt je krimpen.
Ik vraag me af wat ik
hier te zoeken heb.
Ik kan me niet
herinneren wat ik bovenaan de trappen uitvoerde.
Even positioneerde ik
poging.
Weer naar beneden
lopend voelde ik een bevrijding,
Een ‘alles ligt weer
open’
na zo’n doodlopend pad naar boven
te hebben verlaten.
7
Ik neem onder aan de
trap een positie in en poseer.
Nico neemt een foto;
9
Ik loop terug naar
mijn stoel met metgezel
en maak het masker los. Ik haal ook de blindoek los.
Het masker klem ik aan
de zitkant van de rugleuning.
Mijn zittende ‘blinde
paarse heidevelden, vurig gekleurd herfstbos, eekhoorn,
‘spel’.
Ik leg het langwerpige
geheel in de armen
van de blauwe campingstoel,
de lege ogen kijken nietsziend naar niks.
De wind steekt weer
op.
12
Ik loop met het
wapperende laken het plein verder op.
Ik wil inspiratie
opvangen en uitdelen.
In de hoek van het
plein zie ik een groepje mensen
Ik hoor de Franse
taal.
Zij vragen of ik Frans
spreek
Un petit peu.
Wat gebeurt hier
allemaal.
Waarom doet u/jullie
Ik voel me ontregeld.
dik gekabeld touw rondlopen.
Ik herinner me
flarden.
Heinrich en LL zie ik
in het begin verspreid over het plein bewegen.
Heinrich, met een stok
met een krijt aan het eind
maakt sierlijke lijnen op het plein. Krullen.
Een dans? LL zag ik
ook met een stok.
Pas later zag ik dat
ze de krijt lijn volgde
en deze wiste waarna ze een waterspoor
achter liet.
toneeldoek
met elkaar hun ontspanning delen.
Ik kom Maarten met
(in) een ander hoofdstuk tegen.
Hij draagt over zijn
hoofd een soort rondplatpuntig lichaam.
Transformeert het ene
wezen langzamerhand in het andere?
Lange glimmende
zilverfolie tentakels deinen
als een zeewezen onder water.
Voetnoten
*
Het inspiratie laken
bevat 16 circelvormige kleur vlekken.
inspiration, and yours?
Anoek Nuyens; boek en
theater, ‘Beste mensen’.
Maria Zambrano – 1909-1991- leven – denken - schrijven.

plan.
ENG
Aides-Memoires to document ‘Changing Position’
What I remember of the performance
of my piece is set out below.
I wrote down everything I could remember before I
had properly looked at the photos and video I received afterwards.
This text is not written
entirely without reference to this visual documentation.
But I have made an attempt
to think from the inside out.
In this way, I might manage to keep the visual documentation I recall
out of the writing.
That is why I am writing this story in the present tense.
Whilst writing, I tried to recall my experience
chronologically, starting from 13:00.
After the memory writing,
I am sharing notes that also caught my attention,
but which I cannot place in time.
I try to think back to 20 September at
pm
1
Pushing a shopping trolley, I walk
towards Stadhuisplein in Dordrecht.
I look to my left
and, from a plant pot containing a small olive tree,
I am greeted warmly by Philemon.
I hear myself say ‘hello’ in response.
As I walk onto the square, I see
that the unspoken group choreography
is slowly getting underway.
2
By a bench, I take a tripod out of my bag.
I see children next to me and at the bottom of the steps
fishing in the canal.
Next to me, Engel is getting ready.
We exchange greetings.
I tie a blue cloth around a chalk-white mask,
exactly over the holes where human eyes should be.
Will this be the expression of my blind other self?
More associations rise to the surface.
Blind spots, ‘Lady Justice’.
I tie the ‘blind’ mask over
a folded-up umbrella.
Which, in turn, is attached to a selfie stick
that’s been taped to an old microphone stand.
3
Engel steps onto the square.
I walk with the tripod-umbrella-mask contraption,
heading towards the first of two reclining lions – what are they?
‘pedestals’
They feel like monstrosities and tower high above me on their
loungers.
I notice that the overwhelming grandeur
of the bombastic town hall building
automatically presses my ‘mute’ button.
Leaning against the wall, my contraption with its stark white mask
looks insignificant. Even when I take just two steps back and stand at
eye level with the blindfolded figure.
I see ‘the boys’ Topp&Dubio writing
texts in chalk
on the vertical sides of the steps.
4
I look for another spot
and wonder how to relate
to the colossal building, the spacious
brick square and individuals who are constantly changing position.
Although I also see that where one leaves a mark,
another erases it. Sometimes the marks remain.
I walk to the other side of the stairs
and lean the self-construct against the wall beneath the
other stone lion
and go to fetch the inspiration sheet.
As I walk back and forth,
I see three people sitting on the ground,
among whom I think I recognise someone.
They are reading aloud to one another from books.
There is a muffled murmur of human voices.
Later, the murmur sounds like a kind of chant.
The wind is blowing; the sound ripples.
I tie the sheet, with the two slats,
to the assembled structure.
I decide to look for a different position.
5
I walk up the steps of the town hall.
Impressive steps with tempting treads.
I realise I’m sensitive to this.
Every step upwards requires courage and feels full of promise.
As if, in a fairy tale with a happy ending, I am being lured by the
cold shower of reality.
‘Hang in there,’ every step upwards seems to say.
‘Hang in there, and you’ll get somewhere,’
In whose web?
Do I really want to be there?
6
At the top of the stairs, mighty doors rise up.
They are closed.
You feel yourself shrink.
I wonder what I’m doing here.
I can’t remember what I was doing at the top of the stairs.
For a moment, I positioned the masked tripod
in the middle, against a wall halfway up the stairs.
A half-hearted attempt.
Walking back down, I felt a sense of liberation,
A feeling that ‘everything is open again’ after leaving
that dead-end path leading upwards.
7
I take up a position at the bottom of the stairs and strike a pose.
Nico takes a photo; I feel uncomfortable
because I realise I’ve struck a pose
that looks a bit rehearsed.
A pose with a resolute air about it.
It felt powerful yet futile at the same time.
8
I unfold the three legs of the tripod
and set it down, facing the square.
I walk to the bench by the canal and take a camping chair out of my
bag.
Next to the planted boxes and street furniture, I unfold the blue
camping chair
and place the tripod with the attached selfie stick,
alongside a folded umbrella with a blindfolded mask.
I sit down in the chair and look at my phone.
Then I glance to the side and see the three figures reading,
still sitting in the same position.
I feel an urge to stand up.
I walk over to them and sit down beside them,
I listen and watch.
I try to sense
whether I’m being seen as an intruder. It doesn’t seem so.
I hear and see someone reading aloud but can’t concentrate for long. *
9
I walk back to my chair with my companion
and unfasten the mask. I also remove the blindfold.
I clip the mask to the seat side of the seat back.
My seated ‘blind other self’ now stares straight ahead with empty
eyes.
The armrests are positioned as if people in power
were having their portrait painted
10
I want to get away from this.
I want to play with the inspiration sheet* and the wind.
So as not to leave ‘her’ empty-handed, I opened the umbrella.
And like a peacock spreading its tail,
a collage of colour photographs appears, featuring
purple fields of heather, a fiery autumn forest, a squirrel, a deer
and wild boar
which, people hope, you will associate with the Dutch Veluwe.
I roll the canvas off the tripod and hold the two slats that were
secured at two points of the rectangular canvas by their ends.
I hold the canvas up with the sticks, and it catches the wind. It
balloons out.
I begin my playful interaction with the wind and the sheet.
I turn the sheet so that the text on it becomes visible to passers-by.
Looking back, I see that the wind is blowing the ‘whole of the Veluwe’ upside down.
I walk back.
I put the umbrella and tripod upright.
When I let go, the wind takes hold of the open umbrella again.
I wait for the wind to calm down.
I use the slats to guide the corners of the cloth so
that the sheet can settle onto the umbrella.
I step back and cross my arms, extended by the slats,
allowing the ‘inspiration cloth’ to protectively
envelop the ‘Veluwe landscapes’.
11
I begin to walk round the umbrella whilst holding the slats crosswise.
The whole structure rotates on the lower tripod like a funfair
carousel.
Walking round feels like an occult ritual I don’t believe in.
I stop this ‘game’.
I place the elongated structure in the arms
of the blue camping chair,
its empty eyes staring blankly at nothing.
The wind picks up again.
12
I walk further into the square with the fluttering sheet.
I want to gather and share inspiration.
In the corner of the square I see a small
group of people.
I hear them speaking French.
They ask if I speak French.
Un petit peu.
What is going on here?
Why are you doing this?
I tell them that everyone here is expressing themselves in their own
way
and that they’re using an art language to do so.
Then they point to the text on the town hall steps.
They can’t quite make sense of it using the translation app on their
mobile.
I help them translate it word for word.
At the last word, ‘there’, they nod and say goodbye.
What might they be thinking?
I feel unsettled. I see two people watching.
I walk away onto the square.
I don’t want to explain ‘us’ all over again
and try to get some wind back into the inspiration piece.
It works.
13
As I walk, sometimes backwards,
turning to catch the wind as favourably as possible,
I sometimes see glimpses of movement around me.
I see Frans walking around with a thick, rope.
He seems to be following a planned route.
I turn round and see in a flash
that the tip of my canvas is touching Engel.
Meanwhile, I also see
a long, white, chalk-coloured streak across the square.
The figure of Philemon is kneeling halfway along the line,
his naked body completely smeared with the same chalky white
substance.
I move the canvas as I walk slowly on,
constantly changing direction,
I want to catch the wind in the sheet as favourably as possible.
14
As I write this,
I’m starting to lose track of the chronology in my remembered story.
I remember fragments.
At the start, I see Heinrich and LL moving about the square.
Heinrich, with a stick with a piece of chalk at the end,
is drawing graceful lines on the square. Curls.
A dance? I also saw LL with a stick.
It was only later that I realised she was following the chalk line
and erasing it, after which she left a trail
of water behind her.
I kept coming across the figure in dark sunglasses and a creamy white
suit
everywhere.
He walked with a firm step, undisturbed, following his own route
across the square.
I kept coming across the Performative Reading Club,
like butterflies dancing around one another,
always in a different spot on the square,
constantly looking at a book,
reading in what I thought were impossible positions.
Reading is merely a prelude to playing together, I think.
I heard someone talking about the striking blue that Ienke was
wearing.
15
14:00 The town hall clock strikes two.
I’m reminded of a play that has just ended
in which the actors, after the curtain has fallen,
share a moment of relaxation together.
I bump into Maarten in (or as) a different chapter.
He’s wearing a sort of round, flat-topped object over his head.
Is one creature gradually transforming into another?
Long, shimmering silver-foil tentacles undulate like a sea creature
underwater.
