Het idee voor het
Laundry-Line project begon
met enkele afgedankte
witte shirts
van mijn zoon Teide.
Al veel langer hingen
in mijn kledingkast
kledingstukken die ik
ooit had laten bewerken
of bedrukken door kunstenaars.
Een wit jasje (uit de
kringloop) werd bewerkt
(project: Kledingadviesbureau
Onherstelbaar Verbeterd) door
José den Hartog*
tijdens Hoogtij (kunstroute) in Den Haag
Een wit shirt nam ik in
2015 mee
naar het Kunst-Event Autonië**
in de Binkhorst,
waar je onder meer
kleding met auto onderdelen
kon laten bedrukken. Ik
koos voor een autobandprofiel
afdruk op de rug van
het shirt (UF6)
Veel later bewerkte ik
zelf het shirt verder met acrylverf.
Dit shirt droeg ik in
2019 op een internationale kunstinitiatieven
beurs in Athene tijdens
een eigen ontwikkeld programma
PlatformsForAll*** . Op
deze kunstbeurs
maakte ik met het
collectief EX-MÊKH
voor de stand de
installatie ‘Equilibrium’ ****
Mijn jongste zoon
(1999) was rond 2016
begonnen aan een
opleiding aan de horeca vakschool.
Hij groeide voortdurend
uit z’n shirts.
Mijn verzameling witte
overhemden werd groter.
De groeiende
verzameling shirts
hergebruikte ik op
verschillende manieren
…gedragen tijdens
kunstprojecten
…opnieuw betekend met
herinneringen
van de locatie waar ik
de shirts mee naar toe nam.
De shirts zijn ooit
ergens gemaakt
en omhullen lichamen
ter bescherming,
verfraaing, herkenning,
er wordt in geleefd,
sporen op nagelaten, ze
worden weggegeven,
doorgegeven,
doorverkocht
of bewaard om allerlei
redenen.
Met dit project wil ik de
aandacht vestigen op
de rol die kleding en
textiel in ons persoonlijk leven speelt.
Ik bewerk elk
kledingstuk met kleuren, lijnen, woorden
waarbij ik denk aan de
herkomst of
waar ik op dat moment
zelf inspiratie uit haal.
Zo komen er notities en
namen van auteurs, kunstenaars,
denkers, wetenschappers
die me interesseren op het textiel terecht,
die op zich weer een
inspiratie voor de volgende drager kan vormen.
Zou het een soort
doorgeefdagboek kunnen worden
maar dan met kleding of
textiel als drager,
met vastgelegd verhalen
in een voor ieder vindbaar archief?
Voorlopig bied ik de
kledingstukken tijdens korte projecten aan.
Elk shirt komt in een
passend concept/project terecht.

In 2025 heb ik twee

bij Arteventura in Zuid Spanje.
Gedurende het
kunstevent Brota El Pueblo
is een van de shirts
tijdens de performance
van Alicia Velasquez gewassen.
In
2025, I brought two shirts (UF 1 and 2)
from
the Netherlands and further worked on them
during
a residency at Arteventura in southern Spain.
During
the Brota El Pueblo exhibition,
one
of the shirts was washed
as
part of Alicia Velasquez’s performance.

Laundry-Line
The idea for the
Laundry-Line project began
with a few
worn-out white shirts
that belonged to
my son Teide.
For much longer,
my closet had been home to
garments that I had once had altered
or printed by
artists.
A white jacket
(from a second-hand shop) was redesigned
(project: Fashion
Consulting Firm “Irreparably Improved”) by
José den Hartog*
during Hoogtij (art route) in The Hague
In 2015, I took a
white shirt
to the
Kunst-Event Autonië** in the Binkhorst,
where, among other things,
you could have clothing
printed with car
parts. I chose a tire tread pattern
printed on the
back of the shirt (UF6).
Much later, I
further worked on the shirt myself with acrylic paint.
I wore this shirt
in 2019 at an international art initiatives
fair in Athens as
part of a program I developed for
PlatformsForAll***. At this art fair, I
created the installation “Equilibrium”**** for the
booth together with the collective EX-MÊKH
My youngest son
(born in 1999) had started
a program at a
hospitality profession school around 2016.
He was constantly
outgrowing his shirts.
My collection of
white shirts grew.
I repurposed the
growing collection of shirts
in various ways
…worn during art
projects
…imbued with new
meaning through memories
of the locations
where I took the shirts.
The shirts were
once made somewhere
and wrap around
bodies for protection,
beautification,
and recognition; people live in them,
leave traces on
them, give them away,
pass them on, and carry them on…or kept for all sorts of reasons.
With this project, I want to draw attention to
the role that clothing and textiles play in our personal lives.
I process each garment with colors, lines, and
words,
thinking about its origin or
drawing inspiration from it at that moment.
This is how notes and names of authors, artists,
thinkers, and scientists who interest me end up on the fabric,
which in turn can serve as inspiration for the next wearer.
Could this become a sort of passing-it-on diary,
but with clothing or textiles as the medium,
with stories recorded in an archive accessible to everyone?
For now, I’m offering the garments as part of short-term projects.
Each shirt finds its place in a suitable concept or project.

in Quartair, The Hague 2026

Use&wash: wear, share
or as wall piece, wash separate, inside out, doesn’t matter if colours
disappear, it’s as life, iron while covering the shirt with other cloth, re-decorate
if you feel like.
