This piece has a story:
Reflections of the Bird of Paradise
The Bird of Paradise landed
in a Berlin underground station.
U-Bahn 7, Kleistpark.
How many passengers might he surprise
here
with his splendid colours and
performance?
His magnificent feathers were stored
away
in a studio
and only taken out of the storage
cupboard five years later.
Beautiful, but somewhat insignificant
now.
Drawing-like patterns were
woven amongst the splashes of paint.
Month after month, the drawing
continued.
The bird of paradise had reinvented
itself.
No feathers this time, but high heels,
a purple cut, a gnawing little piglet
at its side, a ambiguous, figure
moving energetically, even running.
Half a year later, the bird of
paradise found itself
still in the same studio and
turned itself around and round
and looked at itself in the mirror.
She considered her next
transformation,
this time with a strategy
to be able to leave the studio,
to leave the birdcage.

Overwegingen van de paradijsvogel
De paradijsvogel streek neer
in een metrostation in Berlijn.
Ubahn 7 Kleistpark.
Hoeveel reizigers zou hij hier niet kunnen verrassen
met zijn kleurenpracht en performance?
Zijn verenpracht werd opgeborgen
in een atelier
en pas vijf jaar later uit de kast gehaald.
Prachtig maar wat onbetekenend nu.
Er werden tekenachtige patronen
tussen de verfveersels geweven.
Maand na maand werd er doorgetekend.
De paradijsvogel had zichzelf opnieuw uitgevonden.
Geen veren maar High-heels dit keer,
Een purple coupsel, een knagend biggetje
aan z’n zijde, onzijdig, ambigu type
druk bewegend, rennend zelfs.
Een half jaar later bevond de paradijsvogel zich
Nog steeds in het zelfde atelier en
keerde zichzelf om en om
en bekeek zich in de spiegel.
Ze overwoog een volgende transformatie,
Dit keer met een strategie
om het atelier, de voliëre, te kunnen verlaten.
